  • 26/11/2017 - Thank you

This is such an incredible story. I had no idea about these men and their stories before watching documentary. Thank you all for giving these men what others failed to give them, love and respect for a job well done. We don’t learn about stuff like this in American History. They fought and died for America but their stories are mysteries to most of us. I already appreciate you guys, it’s heart warming to know others care. Thank you. I hope to visit the site someday

  • 01/06/2017 - James Leatherwood

My grandmother was born and raised in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. While reading the book "The Lost Eleven" I saw that Private First Class James Leatherwood lived there too. The Langer family showed courage and compassion helping Mr. Leatherwood, at the risk of their own lives. May James Leatherwood's soul find the peace it so truly deserves.

  • 12/04/2017 - Whereth 11 visited

We (from The Netherlands) visited the memorial in 2015. We where deeply moved, what a tragedy, what a horrible crimes. Thank you for this monument and this website. It is in these troubled times more important then ever to understand that history will repeat if not taking the lessons from it and preventing new massacres in Europe. May these brave men rest in peace, in God's Light. Please

What an incredible story, what an incredible tragedy.....I only know of you from looking at documentaries on ROKU and randomly picking your story. The excerpt on this site is from that documentary. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I will remember. I only hope that others will learn your story.

  • 11/10/2016 - Wereth's 11 Men

It is so good to know that there are people in the world like the Langer family and that the 11 men met them and had some kindness shown them prior to the loss of their lives.

I have never heard of this before. Those men paid a huge sacrifice for who they were. History must be studied so it doesnt repeat its self. 1SG-Ret USA.

  • 10/06/2016 - Memorial Ceremony 2010

I attended the Memorial in 2010, I had only heard about The Wereth 11 3 weeks prior from a newspaper article in the Stars and Stripes. My 3 children sat at the table with Hermann and Tina and I was in awe of the stories they shared about that day and they continue to talk about it to this day. It was emotional walking those steps they walked that freezing night and standing on the ground in which they took their last breaths in defense of our Nations. Such a moving tribute honoring their lives and it has never left me. So grateful to the Langer family beyond words. Looking forward to returning.

  • 28/04/2016 - Just read about the great memorial

I moved to the Netherlands in June and I have been amazed at the things I have learned about this country. I work in Schinnen for the Army. I will be attending the ceremony in May. I am very excited! I am so thankful that people like this great family existed back then and continue to do great things for a people who have suffered so much. Annette Sanders

  • 28/02/2016 - Visited the Memorial

I had the opportunity to visit Belgium last year, and Wereth was at the top of my list to visit. I had seen 'The Wereth Eleven' on t.v. several times and felt a necessity to visit. Although touching and beautiful, the Memorial is quite insignificant in comparison to the treatment these men went through from the enemies in the war, and at home. The fact that the Memorial has no U.S. government involvement in its creation sickens me! The fact that this privately funded and built Memorial is the only one to honor the black troops and their huge contributions to a successful outcome of WWII is appalling! Plese keep up YOUR good work!

  • 02/02/2016 - Wereth 11

I am curious whether U.S. Government and Army ever amended their records to include and acknowledge the Wereth 11 courage, sacrifice, and the German war crimes against them? I am ashamed of how our country treated these and other black and American Indians who fought for our country in WWII.

  • 30/01/2016 - Thank you

I just watched the show about the Wereth 11 on the American Hero Channel on US TV. I did not know about this atrocity. God Bless all the folks that are honoring these heroes and up-keeping the memorial. I would like to add that I have deep respect and gratitude to the family that showed love to these eleven men by taking them in and also to the family members that continue to show the eleven respect to this current day.

  • 26/01/2016 - The Sacrifice & the Good People of Belgium

It is impossible to not be moved by the sacrifice of the 11 men who faced such challenges at home and abroad and lost their lives for country, but also by the kindness and humility of the Belgian people to keep the memory alive. I look forward to a visit in 2016.
